This report updates and extends a May 2014 EIA report, U.S. crude oil production forecast – analysis of crude types. It provides a projection of domestic crude oil production by crude type through 2025, supplementing the overall production projection provided in the AEO2015. Projections of production by crude type matter for several reasons. As we have now established, ‘Crude Oil’ is a term used to describe many different types of raw oil extracted from the ground. Within the industry, we categorize these different types into four main categories based on three factors: their viscosity, volatility, and toxicity. Viscosity refers to the oils ability to flow. Higher viscosity On average, U.S. refineries produce, from a 42-gallon barrel of crude oil, about 19 to 20 gallons of motor gasoline, 11 to 12 gallons of distillate fuel, most of which is sold as diesel fuel, and 4 gallons of jet fuel. More than a dozen other petroleum products are also produced in refineries. Crude oil and other liquids produced from fossil fuels are refined into petroleum products that people use for many different purposes. Biofuels, such as ethanol and biodiesel, are also used as petroleum products, mainly in mixtures with gasoline and diesel fuel.. Petroleum is the largest U.S. energy source. We use petroleum products to propel vehicles, to heat buildings, and to produce Detailed analysis of crude oil price movements and crude oil news which looks at geopolitics and technical advancements affecting the oil sector.
