The IHS Markit US Manufacturing PMI was revised slightly down to 50.7 in February of 2020 from a preliminary of 50.8, pointing to the slowest expansion in factory activity in six months, amid historically subdued gains in output and new orders. Also, employment growth slowed despite a renewed rise in backlogs and subdued inflationary pressures continued, with slower growth of costs helping IHS Markit's final euro zone composite Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI), seen as a good indicator of economic health, rose to a five-month high of 51.3 in January from December's 50.9.
The seasonally adjusted IHS Markit final U.S. Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index™ (PMI™) posted 51.9 in January, up slightly from the flash figure of 51.7, but down from 52.4 in December. The Eurozone Manufacturing PMI ® (Purchasing Managers' Index ®) is produced by IHS Markit and is based on original survey data collected from a representative panel of around 3,000 manufacturing firms. National data are included for Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Austria, the Republic of Ireland and Greece.
